Don’s I.T. Story May Sound Familiar
Don Gould originally reached out because his law firm wanted to get away from the solo I.T. Consultant that had been dealing with for 8 YEARS!
He liked his old guy but response times were getting too inconsistent; sometimes his consultant would answer on the first ring and sometimes it would be days.
His I.T. guy also wasn’t proactive, which bugged Don a bit.
Were his computers getting old, did he need the cloud, was everything patched?
Don called LME to “get some pricing” and our chat lasted 2 hours 🙂
PROBLEM 1 – NOT PICKING THE RIGHT SIZE IT PARTNER
A solo I.T. Consultant can be nice if you have a very small need for I.T. support. But if you have staff, deadlines, and a need for quick resolutions then you need to partner with an IT partner that focuses on your businesses your size.
Don needed an I.T. partner geared up for his growing business
PROBLEM 2 – THE WRONG COMPUTERS
Don mentioned lag, slow load times, lots of pop-ups, crashing applications, and frustrated staff. OF COURSE, THEY ARE FRUSTRATED – you gave them the wrong computers.
They needed laptops with docking stations, not desktops, they needed more monitors, they need more memory, better hard drives, and much overdue clean-up. Honestly, Don could now cut a staff member or two with all the time we’ve freed up for them.
PROBLEM 3 – NO ONCE COULD WORK FROM HOME
They had a VPN that no one even knew existed, which didn’t matter since they didn’t even have laptops. Seeing as it’s 2024, we moved their data to the cloud, gave the laptops secured access to the data systems, and made work from home the same as work from the office (smooth and easy)
PROBLEM 4 – A GROSS NEGLIGENCE OF CYBERSECURITY
“I don’t have anything the hackers want,“ I hear this every time I talk to someone, even bringing up Cybersecurity ruffles people’s feathers.
You have employees, don’t you? 401K, payroll, SSNs, payment processing, a bank account….
The term Cybersecurity often conjures up visions of scams or snake oil.
It’s not.
Large companies have millions of dollars spent on cybersecurity not because they want to, but because they have to.
We backed everything up, implemented patches to some obvious security flaws (2FA, Encryption, Phishing, Email protections, Login alerts, Zero Trust, Password Manager), and put checkmarks next to all the important categories in his Cyber Insurance questionnaire.
PROBLEM 5 – NO CYBER INSURANCE
Wow, just wow. Don, I said, you need this by the end of the week. When you get breached, the only person who can recoup any of your money is your insurance provider.
“If you take anything from this call, please let it be to get Cyber Insurance” (he did)
PROBLEM 6 – THE WRONG TOOLS
They had Office 365 AND Google Workspace. We consolidated licenses, saved him money, and removed excess passwords to remember.
We got him better PDF tools, better scanning systems, Outlook tasks, workflows, proper folder structure, inbox rules, a CRM, inbound lead automation, and a more modern billing system.
Don’s business now looks 20 years younger and is ready to go out and date again 🙂
