Here are the steps to setup scan to SMB or Scan to Email on your Mac computer
How to Fix SMB Scanning on a Mac Computer
Step 1. Get a Windows machine and never look back
Step 2. Ignore this excellent advice and continue trying to look cool with your overpriced Apple device
- On the Mac, create a folder on the desktop called Scans
- Go to “system preferences” and then “file sharing”
- Enable file sharing and then click on the Plus in the shared folders tab
- Select the Scans folder you created on your desktop
- Click on “options” and check all the available options
- Make sure also to give read/write to the account you’re going to be using to authenticate within the copier/scanner
- Please make a note of the IP address of the Mac because I had issues getting the Canon to resolve the Mac by hostname (go to system preferences, then network, and jot down the IPV4 Address)
- Login to the by typing the IP address of the Canon into Safari or Chrome
(these remaining instructions vary depending upon the model of your printer/scanner)
- Located the address book, destination settings or scan repository settings in the scanners Web GUI
- Add your scanning destination
- Choose SMB and then choose IPV4 and SMB
- For the destination, enter the Mac’s IP address (make sure to statically assign your IP at the server level if possible)
- Enter the username and password for Mac account on your computer
- For “share” or ”path” just enter “Scans” (this varies from model to model but you should only need to enter Scans in one section and then the IP address of the Mac in the other – you may have to play with these settings as they are model and brand-specific)
Each copier version varies so you may have to play with the scan repository fields but know that as long as you follow the initial sharing steps properly the issue will likely be figuring out the fields section of the copier/scanner
