Client: Hansen & Cleary, LLC | Industry: Legal
Hansen & Cleary, a boutique Chicagoland law firm representing children, families, and individuals with disabilities, needed to qualify for cyber insurance and properly secure the sensitive case data they handle daily.
The Challenge
- No consistent patching, monitoring, encryption, or backup process across computers, servers, and network devices.
- Large volumes of personal and case-sensitive information moving by email with no secure transfer method.
- No documented disaster recovery plan or failure alerting.
- Staff had never been trained on modern phishing and intrusion tactics.
The Solution
- Ran a full Cybersecurity Risk Assessment and presented the findings before scoping the engagement.
- Deployed RMM agents to manage encryption, patching, and monitoring across every device.
- Routed email through cloud spam filtering and configured Microsoft Defender to flag phishing markers and out-of-country sign-ins.
- Enabled 2FA across email, SharePoint, and all cloud systems, and replaced browser-stored passwords with secure password management.
- Set up OneDrive and SharePoint backup replication, a CATO cloud firewall, and 24×7 SOC-monitored endpoint detection (SentinelOne).
- Rolled out Privilege Access Management for software installs and wrote a formal incident-response handbook for staff.
The Results
Hansen & Cleary now runs a true cybersecurity stack that meets their cyber insurance requirements, dramatically lowers breach risk, and covers every core operation on one predictable monthly budget.
